OUR LIVING CLASSROOM
Living Classroom is one of the key components of our Gestalt Accelerated Learning System. At Learning Oasis, we believe that the experiences and perceptions of the students have a significant impact on the way that they learn. Our Living classroom are designed to present real life contexts or problems as a whole and to give the opportunity to the students to actively participate in their learning process in a fun way. It emphasises on the here-and-now experience to give the students the opportunity to validate and test the concepts learned and make connections. The activities provide immediate personal experience which is the focal point for learning, giving life, texture and subjective personal meaning to abstract concepts and at the same time providing a concrete, publicly shared reference point for testing the implications and validity of ideas during the learning process.
The thematic approach of the activities calls for in depth investigation and allows for the various knowledge and skills learnt in the classroom to be repositions in real-life contexts, enabling the students to actively connect their current knowledge to their personal life experience and yet reaching beyond their own perceptual and experiential limits. Our specially crafted activities are rich in context which allow the students to analyse the content and make connections to their previous knowledge in a realistic and relevant situation. Working as a team, the students are forced to work collaboratively and learn from each other in identifying additional issues related to the given problem. Working towards common goals, they develop individual accountability and positive interdependence. The given social learning situations encourage the students to help each other build and refine their knowledge. Each project calls for different interest, skills, intelligence and competency hence incorporating students’ differences into the learning activities which allow the students to construct their own learning experience in ways that suit them best.
Our Living classrooms facilitates the students to develop personal meanings in pursuing the various projects, feels in control of the learning process and actively involved in the experiential learning process. The outcomes of the active learning will be reflected in the students’ character, interpersonal skills, their sense of social responsibility, the useful knowledge acquired and the ability to see the bigger pictures.
